How to Use Gaimen Hunter: Find Tokyo License Conversion Appointments

If you are converting a foreign driver's license to a Japanese license (外国免許切り替え) — gaimen kirikae (外免切り替え) for short — and you need the document check plus written test in Tokyo, the hard part is often getting an appointment at Samezu (鮫洲) or Fuchu (府中). Slots on the official reservation site appear and vanish quickly, and that site does not email you when something opens.

Gaimen Hunter watches that site for you, for free. After you sign in, My Page is where you turn scanning on, choose locations and times, set a date range, pick notify-only or automatic temporary sign-up, and review past results.

Who Gaimen Hunter is for

Gaimen Hunter is aimed at people who:

  • Are doing gaimen kirikae in the Tokyo area
  • Must book the document check and written test online (often the same day at the test center)
  • Need an appointment at Samezu or Fuchu
  • Hold a foreign license that requires the written and practical tests (for example China, California, and other non-exempt jurisdictions)

If your country is exempt from those tests, slots are usually easier to book directly on the official site. For everyone else, keeping the reservation page open all day is a poor use of time — that is what Gaimen Hunter automates.

Step 1: Sign in

  1. Open gaimenhunter.com and choose Get my appointment! (or go to the login page).
  2. Sign in with email (a one-time magic link) or Google.
  3. After login you land on My Page, or you can open it anytime from the home page when you are signed in.

Gaimen Hunter only needs your email to notify you and (if you enable it) to attempt temporary reservations on the official system. You do not give us your password for the police reservation site.

Step 2: Turn on Gaimen Hunter

On My Page, find the Enable Gaimen Hunter switch next to your welcome message.

  • On — we scan for slots that match your preferences and act according to your signup mode (notify only, or notify plus automatic temporary sign-up).
  • Off — scanning pauses for your account.

If you turn it on without selecting any location/time preferences, we pause searching and email you a reminder to finish setup. If your date range ends with no matching slot found, we pause and email you so you can pick a new range.

My Page — enable scanning, choose Notify only, pick locations/times (skip early mornings if you want), and set your date range.

Step 3: Set location and time preferences

Under Location preferences, use the checkbox grid:

  • Rows are test centers (Samezu, Fuchu, and any other locations we support).
  • Columns are slot start times offered on the reservation site (for example morning and afternoon starts).

Select every location–time combination you are willing to take. Leave unchecked anything you would skip even if it opened. Gaimen Hunter only watches what you select.

Step 4: Set your date range

Below the preference grid, set:

  • Start Date — earliest appointment day you want
  • End Date — latest appointment day you want

Only slots whose appointment date falls inside this window count as matches. Widen the window if you need something sooner; narrow it if you can only attend certain weeks.

Step 5: Choose notify-only or automatic sign-up

My Page has two modes (when automatic sign-up is available on your account):

Notify only

  • We email you when a matching slot appears.
  • You open the official reservation site and book it yourself as fast as you can.
  • Notifications go to your signed-in email (shown as verified once your account email is confirmed).

This mode is simplest: no extra email setup, you stay in control of the booking click.

Sign-up & Notify Automatically

  • When a matching slot appears, we attempt a temporary reservation on the official system on your behalf, then email you.
  • You still must complete registration within 180 minutes — check your inbox (and spam) for the official reservation system's message and finish the form before the hold expires.
  • If automatic sign-up fails (email already registered on the license site, slot taken by someone else, or another error), we still notify you so you can try booking manually.
Sign-up and Notify Automatically with sub-addressing verified
Sign-up & Notify Automatically — optional mode that tries to hold a slot for you; email sub-addressing shown as verified.

Email sub-addressing (recommended for auto sign-up)

Automatic temporary sign-up works best with email sub-addressing: many providers deliver [email protected] to the same inbox as [email protected]. Gaimen Hunter can register each attempt with a unique +gh… address so the official site treats it as a new email, while replies still land in your normal inbox.

On My Page you can:

  1. Open Sign-up & Notify Automatically
  2. Turn on Guarantee sign-ups with email sub-addressing (recommended)
  3. Verify sub-addressing (we send a confirmation link; some providers are auto-verified)

If your provider does not support sub-addressing and you still want auto sign-up, the email you use with Gaimen Hunter must not already be registered on the license reservation website. If it is, the official site will reject our attempt and ask for that existing account's password — which Gaimen Hunter does not have.

Step 6: Wait for a match (and check Slot Results)

Once Gaimen Hunter is enabled with at least one location/time and a valid date range, leave it running. You do not need to keep the website open.

When something happens, you get email, and My Page → Slot Results keeps a history, including outcomes such as:

  • Notified — we emailed you about a matching slot
  • Temporary Sign-up Successful — we held a slot; finish official registration within 180 minutes
  • Failed (Email in use) — the sign-up email was already registered on the reservation site
  • Failed (Slot taken) — someone else got there first
  • Failed (Other) — an unexpected error during reservation

Use Details on each row for the full explanation.
